Oulton Park 12-4-86 Club Meeting

Oulton Park 12-4-86 Club Meeting Just another typical weekend club meeting at the Cheshire track, the chilly spring weather and occasional showers making it one for the real enthusiasts only. There were some meaty, thunderous Astons waking up the Little Budworth residents, including the former works 1977 V8 Le Mans car, but the star of the show, once again was Roger Eccleston, who ignored the rain showers, and threw his Reynard at impossible angles around the track. Silverstone International Trophy 1986

Silverstone International Trophy 1986 The BRDC International Trophy started in 1949 and was originally a non-championship race for cars meeting the contemporary Grand Prix regulations. The race, which had a long association with the Daily Express, was run for Formula 1 cars until 1977, and was run for F3000 from 1985 (the first ever F3000 race), with the intervening years being a Formula 2 event. The 1986 race was a rather fraught affair, as you can see in this video, and was punctuated by a red flag, and was stopped early after an accident which almost claimed this photographer… Pascal Fabre was declared the winner,...

Cadwell Park Fiesta Meeting 1986

Cadwell Park Fiesta Meeting 1986 Sited across a steep sided valley, Cadwell Park near Louth in Lincolnshire is a real driver’s circuit. It twists and dips and turns in and out of the valley, providing some of the most challenging and enjoyable 3.477Km of tarmac anywhere. This meeting was dedicated to the visit of the Ford Credit Fiesta racers, who had a drizzly, damp track to contend with. Other races on the programme included Mini Seven and Miglia, Formula Ford 1600, Caterham 7 plus a road-going sports/saloon race that several of the Fiesta crowd joined in. Brands Hatch 500 Car Races – 1986

Brands Hatch 500 Car Races – 1986 Not the normal club meeting but a monster, 2-day event with more than 500 competing cars, a marching band, and high-kicking Can-Can girls. What more could you want from a race meeting? The cars were lined up all around the Grand Prix circuit, to allow the spectators to wander amongst all the assembled racers, it was quite a meeting. Here is the line up: Road Going Sports Cars, 750/Formula Vee, Kit Cars, Pre 74 FF1600, Mini 7, Monoposto Mini Miglia, Champion of Brands FF1600, GT/Mod Sports, RAC FF1600, FF2000. Sports 2000, F1300. MGOC Trophy Race, Super/Budget Saloons. There was so much racing...

Oulton Park HSCC Meeting 1986

Oulton Park HSCC Meeting 1986 The Historic Sports Car Club always provides a great event for any true enthusiast, with plenty of seriously important historic racing cars being put through their paces as they are meant to be driven, in anger. For me the ex-Ronnie Peterson Lotus 72 was the highlight, although a pair of Yardley McLarens, one driven by the late John Foulston, then owner of the circuit, were the quickest F1 cars on display. Oulton Park Kart Meeting 1986

Oulton Park Kart Meeting 1986 This was a hybrid meeting for both cars and circuit karts, and is just a small gallery. The mixed springtime weather made things interesting for some of the karters, with some lairy moments at the high speed Knickerbrook corner. The races for cars we the Champion of Oulton and Formula E FF1600s, with a turbocharged Doug Lague taking the E race, somewhat controversially, from Crossle ace Richard “Grecian” Peacock. Donington F3 Meeting 1986

Donington F3 Meeting 1986 The full circuit at Donington was used for the May ’86 visit of the British Formula 3 Championship, with a packed supporting card of races. It was the first of 4 wins in the 1986 championship for Martin Donnelly, who took a dominant victory from Mauricio Sandro Sala. The production saloon race featured a great scrap between Gerry Marshall’s Monza and a pair of Mercedes Benz Cossies. Other races were FF1600, Clubmans and MG’s. Oulton Park 26-05-86 – Signal Radio Raceday

Oulton Park 26-05-86 – Signal Radio Raceday As far as my memory goes , this meeting was sponsored by the local radio station Signal, and was a typical Oulton Park clubbie for the usual suspects; Champion of Oulton (won by “String”, the BTCC Safety car pilot), Formula E FF1600 (Roger E winning again), Clubmans, Formula Vee and a combined Sports/Saloon race with an eclectic collection of machinery, with everything from Mini’s to Renualt 5 Turbo’s, Lotus Esprit and even Kit cars.
