The BRDC International Trophy started in 1949 and was originally a non-championship race for cars meeting the contemporary Grand Prix regulations. The race, which had a long association with the Daily Express, was run for Formula 1 cars until 1977, and was run for F3000 from 1985 (the first ever F3000 race), with the intervening years being a Formula 2 event.
The 1986 race was a rather fraught affair, as you can see in this video, and was punctuated by a red flag, and was stopped early after an accident which almost claimed this photographer… Pascal Fabre was declared the winner, although only earned half points due to the race only lasting 22 laps.
